Bali Pratipada is the fourth day of Deepavali (Diwali), the Hindu festival of lights. It is celebrated to symbolise Deity Vishnu’s conquest over the demon king, Bali. Bali Pratipada, also known as Bali Padyami or Padva, is the fourth day of Diwali. It is celebrated in honour of the notional return of the (Daitya)-king Bali to earth. It is the first day of the Hindu month Kartika and is the first day of the bright lunar fortnight in the month. On this day, ritualistic worship of King Bali is done where an offering (Naivaidya) is made to him to satisfy his thirst and hunger. On this day people wear new clothes and worship Govardhan mountain. Idols of Lord Indra is kept and then worshipped. The day celebrates the victory of Lord Vishnu in the Vamana Avatar over the demon-king Bali and the home-coming of the demon-king to the earth.
