Sita Navami is celebrated to honor the birth anniversary of Sita Mata. Sita Navami is also known as Sita Jayanti or Janaki Navami. Sita Navami or Sita Jayanti is popular amongst married women who keep fast on this day for the long life of their husband. It falls on the ‘Shukla Paksha’ ‘Navami’ of the ‘Vaishaka’ month. It is believed that Sita was born in Pushya Nakshatra. According to the legends, Lord Rama was also born on the Navami tithi in the ‘Chaitra’ month. On this day, special rituals and prayers are held in Lord Rama and Janaki temples all across the country. Rituals like Sringar Darshan, Maha Abhishekam and Aarti are performed in all these temples.
