Vrishabha Sankranti is the start of Vrishabha season as specified in the sun based schedule. It also marks the onset of Vaigasi Masam in Tamil Nadu, ‘Edavam masam’ in Kerala, ‘Jyeshto mash’ in the Bengal and ‘Brusha Sankranti’ in Odisha. The word ‘Vrishabha’ means a bull, known as Nandi, who is considered the vehicle of Lord Shiva. Devotees offer Pitru Tarpan and worship Lord Vishnu to welcome a happy and prosperous life.
