Nagula Chavithi is an auspicious day to observe Naga Puja. Nagula Chavithi is observed on the fourth day after Diwali Amavasya during Karthik month. This is mainly a women’s festival. On this day women observe fasting and worship snake god and perform Naga Pooja. It is a ritual performed for children’s better health. Nagula Chavithi is celebrated in a big way, in many parts of Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. On this day people wake up early in the morning, take a bath and visit the nearby temple with the idols of snake, and perform puja at the snake pit. Devotees offer turmeric powder, Kumkum and lighten lamp for peace and prosperity. The festival also a symbolizes the peaceful existence of humans and venomous creatures. Nagula Chavithi, a festival to worship Nag Devatas, is mainly a women festival.
