According to the Bhavishya Purana, there lived a Vaishya named Dharmadasa in Shakal Nagar. Dharmadas was very spiritual by nature, who used to worship deities and Brahmins. One day Dharmadasa heard about Akha Teej that 'On the Tritiya Tithi of Vaishakh Shukla, the worship of the gods and the donation given to the Brahmins becomes Akshay.' Hearing this, Vaishya offered his ancestors by bathing the Ganges on the day of Akha Teej.
