This jyotirlinga is installed in the world-famous temple referred to as Somnath on the seashore in the Kathiawar region of Gujarat province. Earlier this area was generally known as Prabhaskshetra. It was here that Lord Sri Krishna made his Leela after making a gunman's arrow named Zara.

Significance of Somnath Jyotirlinga

Story of Somnath jyotirlinga
Daksha Prajapati had 27 girls. They all were married to Chandra dev. However, all the affection and love of the moon was only towards Rohini among them. Resulting from this act, other daughters of Daksha Prajapati were very sad.He narrated his story to his father. Nevertheless, it did not have any effect on his heart under Rohini. Moon was also very sad and worried.
Hearing their prayers, the Gods of Indra and the sages, and many others. went to the grandfather Brahma for their salvation. After listening to all the issues, Brahma said- 'Moon should worship Lord Shiva with the other gods for his curse-release by going to the holy place of worship.
According to his statement, Chandra Deva completed all of the work of worshiping the demise god. He chanted the Mritunjaya Mantra ten million times while performing austerities. Happy with this, Mrityunjaya - Lord Shiva granted him the boon of immortality.
