Badami is an ancient city in the Bagalkot district of the southern Indian state of Karnataka, also called Vatapi in ancient times. The Badami cave group positioned here is known for its stone sculpture temples.The city was the capital of the Chalukya dynasty (Solanki / Baghel) from the 6th to the 8th century. These 4 historical caves located in Badami Nagar were built only after the sixth century. This cave is considered to be one of many oldest caves in India. Vatapi (the present Badami) was the capital of the Chalukya rulers for more than two centuries.

• On the eastern and western walls of this cave are large paintings of Bhuvaraha (Narasimha Dev) and Trivikram (Bamana avatar). The roof of the cave is adorned with work of Brahma, Shiva, Ananthashayana and Ashtadikpalakas, etc. besides Lord Vishnu.
• Third Cave The ancient cave of Badami depicts the grand type of structure and sculpture of temples. The figure of many deities stays right here and there are 578 century inscriptions found here.
• The fourth cave has a Jain temple. A portrait of Lord Mahavira, the Jain monk, Lord Mahavir is sitting here, and along with it the picture of Tirthankara Parshvanath can be present. According to a Kannada inscription, this temple dates back to the 12th century.
• Apart from cave temples, there are three Shiva temples in the northern hill of which Malegatti Pagoda is essentially the most famous. Apart from this, different famous temples embrace Bhootnath Temple, Mallikarjuna Temple and Dattatreya Temple and so on.
