Mythological significance of Srimallikarjuna
Once Lord Shiva and Parvati's sons Kartikeya Swami and Ganesha started bickering for their marriage. Karthikeya believed that he was older, so he should be married first, but Shri Ganesh was adamant about getting his marriage done first.When father Mahadev and mother Parvati came to understand about the rationale for his or her quarrel, they made an offer to Karthikeya and Ganesh to finish this quarrel. He said that whoever revolves round the earth and comes here before you both are going to be married first.
On hearing the condition, Karthikeya ji ran to revolve round the earth but for Ganesha, this task was very difficult. Lord Ganesha was grosser than the body but the ocean of wisdom. He thought of an answer and urged his mother Parvati and father Devadhidev Maheshwar to sit on a pedestal.
Ganesh did seven revolutions of him. during this way, he became entitled to receive the fruits of the earth's orbit. Seeing their clever intellect, both Shiva and Parvati were very happy and that they got Sriganesh married before Karthikeya.
By the time Swami Karthikeya came back to revolve round the entire earth, by that time Sriganesh ji was married to Vishwaroop Prajapati's daughters Siddhi and Wisdom, from whom he had also got two sons named 'Kshem' and 'Benefit'.
Seeing all this, Swami Karthikeya got angry and went towards Mount Crounch. Devarshi Narada was sent to influence him but he didn't agree. After Karthikeya's departure, Mata Parvati also reached Crounch.
On the opposite hand, Lord Shiva also appeared there in the sort of Jyotirlig. Since then, he became known as Mallikarjuna Jyotirlig. Mallika is that the name of Mata Parvati, while Arjuna is named Lord Shankar. apart from this legend, there are many other stories which are said about 'Mallikarjuna' Jyotirlig.
