Digambar Jain Temple, situated near the Red Fort in Chandni Chowk area of Delhi, the nation's capital, is the oldest Jain temple in Delhi. Digambar Jain Temple History
One of the largest Jain temples in the nation, this temple was built within the 16th century by a military officer of the then Mughal emperor Shah Jahan during the Mughal rule. This temple was initially referred to as the farming couch temple and also the Lashkari temple.Some people used to call it Urdu temple as it is in Urdu market. It is believed that there used to be a camp of Mughal soldiers at the place of the temple and a Jain officer of the army kept the statue of Lord Parshvanath here for darshan.
After this, when other Jain officers and soldiers of the army came to know about this, they too started coming here for darshan and progressively this place took the form of a small temple. Then later in 1935 the temple was renovated and its buildings were given a grand appearance. In the Mughal period, temples were not allowed to be built, so there was no formal peak in the temple before independence.
