Yama Deepam Story
It is said that a king used to be Hem. Hem had a son. When he made the son’s horoscope with qualified Brahmins, then the prediction of his premature death was hidden in it. It was said in the horoscope that the young man would die on the fourth day after marriage.
King Hem kept the son from the young women and sent them to a place where no woman was even covered. Luck did not approve of it. One day a princess came out of there. The princess and the prince were fascinated by each other and the Gandharvas got married. The prince died on the fourth day.
When the Yamdoots came to take the life of the prince, the newly married prince was crying out loud. Hearing the pain of the princess, a Yamdoot became emotional and asked his lord if there was any way to prevent Maharaja from premature death.
Yamraj said that if someone gives me a lamp in the north direction of the Trayodashi of Krishna Paksha of Kartik month, then premature death will not be achieved. Since then Dhanteras also started to worship Yamraj and lamps for him started to be lit.
