According to the lunisolar calendar or Poornimanta Panchang, each month is named on the full moon date on the basis of the constellation in which the moon is located.
It is believed that in the month of Ashadha, on the full moon day, the Moon is situated in Purvashadha or Uttarashada Nakshatra. If on the full moon date of Ashadha month, the Moon is in Uttarashada Nakshatra, then the full moon is considered very auspicious and lucky to attain prosperity and abundance.
Also, on Ashadha Purnima, people observe Gopadam Vrat and offer special worship to Lord Vishnu. It is said that Gopad Vrat is very fruitful and bestows all kinds of blessings and happiness to the one who observes the fast.

Worship or recite the name of Lord Vishnu throughout the day. One can also read or listen to Satyanarayan Katha for great benefits. During meditation, think of the image of the quadrilateral Vishnu sitting with his consort, Goddess Lakshmi, on the Garuda Vihaan. Earthen lamps or diyas, essence, flowers and incense should be offered to Lord Vishnu.
After offering prayers to Lord Vishnu, devotees should feed Brahmins or needy people. One should also do charitable work as per one’s convenience. Devotees should wear yellow clothes and distribute grains and sweets as donations.
