Jyeshtha Purnima Vrat Katha
According to the legend, a daughter was born from the part of Goddess Savitri in the house of King Ashwapati, who was named Savitri by the Maharaj. Seeing the daughter attained a young age, the king consulted the ministers. After this the king told Savitri that the time has come to give you a suitable groom. I am not able to find a bride according to your soul after thinking, so I allow you to choose your bride, oh daughter.
Savitri, after receiving her father’s permission, set out to find her groom and one day she saw Satyabhan and chose him as her groom. When she told this to the god sage Narad ji, then Narad ji came to Savitri and started saying that your husband is short life. You see some other groom, but Savitri said that I am a Hindu woman, I choose my husband only once.
Everyone accepted Savitri’s words and one day both of them got married. One day Satyabhan started having severe pain in his head. Savitri laid her husband’s head on her lap under the banyan tree. At the same time, Savitri saw that Yamraj had arrived with many Yamadoots. Taking Satyabhan’s soul towards the south. Seeing this, Savitri also follows behind Yamraj.
Seeing them coming, Yamraj said that O virtuous woman, the wife supports her husband only till the earth. Now you go back. On this, Savitri said that where my husband will live, I will live there, this is my wife’s dharma. Yamraj was very pleased to hear this answer from Savitri’s mouth. He asked Savitri to ask for a boon and said, I will give you three boons, which three will you give, then Savitra asked for eye light for the mother-in-law, asked for the father-in-law’s lost kingdom and to become the mother of the sons of her husband Satyabhan. Asked for a boon
After hearing these three boons of Savitri, Yamraj blessed her and said that it will be like this. Savitri entangled Yamraj with her intelligence. The more it was impossible to have a daughter without a husband, the more Yamraj turned away from his word. In the end he had to bring back Satyabhan’s life. Savitri again returned to the same banyan tree. Where Satyabhan was lying dead. The dead body of Satyabhan was re-circulated. Therefore, Savitri not only got her husband alive with the effect of her fasting, but by providing eye light to her mother-in-law, got her father-in-law’s lost kingdom.
